Craigslist Grand Rapids man admits to using Craigslist
GRAND RAPIDS (MI) – Those warning of the dangers of video games now have more ammunition after a Grand Rapids man aged 25 pleaded guilty to answering Craigslist ads offering X-Box or PS3 game systems for purchase by robbing sellers at gunpoint.
After admitting to having set up meetings with two people who were selling online popular video games systems, Leroy Montrell Simpson now faces life imprisonment.

Simpson was not far from Simpson’s home when he met one of the Kalamazoo Avenue sellers.
The two met in the 1000 block Alexander Street SE. Both victims were robbed that night.
Grand Rapids Police was able to track Simpson using the phone he used for the meetings. Police claim that Simpson confessed to the crimes.
On Wednesday, July 30, Simpson pleaded guilty in Kent County Circuit Court to two counts for armed robbery. Ryan Maesen, Simpson’s attorney, pointed out that a fake gun was used during the robberies.
The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office accepted Simpson’s guilty plea in exchange for not charging him as a repeat offenders. This could have substantially increased Simpson’s prison sentence on Aug. 26.
Simpson, who claims he dropped out from school in the 10th grades, pleaded guilty to attempted larceny in 2008 and was placed under probation for 30 consecutive months. Simpson violated his probation, and was sentenced in 2012 to 212 days in Kent County Jail.
